Alternative Courses
In order to meet the needs of students with intellectual disabilities, Christ the Teacher offers Alternate Education courses at Sacred Heart High School.
Alternative Education courses are not considered appropriate for students with average to above average cognitive ability who may have learning disabilities and/or behaviour disorders, or for whom English is a second language or dialect. Alternative Education courses are for those students whose needs cannot be met through Regular Education courses. If it has been determined through assessment, observation, and collaborative team meetings that a student’s needs can best be met through placement in Alternative Education courses, then all those involved in this decision must carefully consider the implications of such a placement.
At present, courses are offered in the areas of:
Mathematics
English Language Arts
Science
Social Studies
Practical & Applied Arts (Survey)
Health Education/Physical Education
Career & Work Exploration
Christian Ethics
Business Education
