Response to Intervention

Response to Intervention (RtI) is the common North American student services delivery model for meeting the needs of all learners. The RtI model is based on the belief that all students can learn if provided appropriate supports. Using a tiered delivery model, teachers, administrators, and student support services teachers work collaboratively to determine the appropriate whole class (tier 1), small group (tier 2), or individualized (tier 3) interventions to help the student reach his or her potential.

Team Meetings

Team Meetings Start with the School Team:

  • Teacher recognizes need
  • Teacher meets with the SSST (informal or formal)
  • Together develop an in-class support plan
  • If need is not met – access additional resources within the school to refine the plan and expand supports (Counsellors, Admin, LAC, other teachers, EA) * Use the resources within your school as a professional learning community.

Division Team Meetings:

  • Organized by the Student Support Services teacher on an ‘as needed’ basis. Should occur approximately every 6-8 weeks by contacting the Coordinator of Student Achievement & Supports.
  • Will include Coordinator, Psychologist, Speech & Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, & Physical Therapist (as needed)
  • Focus is to update team members and refine intervention plans for students needing intensive supports.
  • Agenda must be presented in advance so resources and files are brought with consultants.
  • Focus is NOT to start the team process – that should be done.
  • Referrals are determined at the team meeting as a collaborative team
